The Secret Behind My 1,866,913 Monthly Search Visitors It’S Not What You Think)

Web traffic has become a gigantic part of my day as a media entrepreneur and coach. Not just because I am being paid a lot of money to get people to read my stuff or maybe not), but because I love writing blog posts and making you laugh. And believe me, your “clippings” are like gold dust. You have to have them.

And the people who are reading my blog are many times bigger than I think, most of the time. I mean, by a million people. Well, yes, my blog gets 1,866,913 monthly readers – but I didn’t post 1,866,913 times and we’re going to count all my articles the same.

So it’s my job to research, understand and learn how to gain those 1,866,913 people, mostly by posting more things in shorter doses. I say “mostly” because although there are many blogs that only post once a day – you know, people who only post one post a day, that’s not how I do it. I post most of my posts every day, with a couple of exceptions.

It’s hard to see, but our global web has become an unscientific measurement system. We have a lot of people talking. There are people posting things and you have to know how to read all those conversations.

But since you and I are likely not able to do it, I must share how I’ve been learning what my 1,866,913 people are reading by monitoring my Twitter, blogging, Facebook, Instagram and the like.

We live in an information age, which I love. But information overload may not always be a good thing. It can make you insecure and upset.

Here’s how I look at it.

If I’m reading a lot of people’s tweets, Facebook posts, Instagram Stories or posts on my blog, that tells me 1) that most of my 1,866,913 audience is picking up on my articles. 2) That they like my writing. 3) That I am actually doing something useful, instead of just giving opinions or musing. 4) That my 1,866,913 followers trust me – so I can look to them as trusted resources.

I made this presentation for content marketing to a growth hacking conference. It was pretty simple, but here are some points to try:

1. Be accurate. Be real. Be relevant.

2. Discuss your audience’s struggles and problems.

3. Share people’s achievements.

4. Align with the cultural shift around movement and disruption, an evolution in which our peers need to see you.

5. Link to competitions – or “propositions.”

6. Use rich content to help engage your audience.

7. Create organic linkbacks.

8. Follow these 8 steps to help with your SEO Search Engine Optimization).

There you have it. I hope it’s helpful and useful to you. Good luck.
